REL S/550 brings the speed, scale, and refinement of the acclaimed Serie S lineup into a more compact form factor, making it an ideal choice for medium-sized listening rooms and home theaters. Combining a powerful 550-watt amplifier, advanced CarbonAlloy driver technology, and deep low-frequency extension, S/550 delivers authoritative bass performance while preserving the nuance, transparency, and musicality expected from a high-end REL subwoofer.

Designed to excel with both music and cinema, S/550 offers lightning-fast transient response, exceptional tonal balance, and impressive low-frequency depth. Whether used individually, in stereo pairs, or as part of a REL Line Array system, it provides a level of performance that far exceeds its physical footprint.

DESIGN

S/550 features a completely redesigned cabinet that is larger internally while appearing visually lighter and more elegant. Horizontal side strakes, sculpted elliptical returns, and premium metallic accents create a sophisticated appearance that complements modern high-performance systems.

Enhanced internal bracing increases rigidity while reducing cabinet resonances, allowing the drivers and amplifier to perform at their highest level. Front-rail leveling adjusters simplify installation on uneven flooring, while optional Premium Wood Grilles offer an additional level of customization for discerning owners.

DRIVER

At the heart of S/550 is a newly developed 10-inch CarbonAlloy active driver utilizing a lightweight cone structure capped with pure carbon fiber. The redesigned suspension system provides increased excursion capability, improved control, and greater dynamic output while maintaining exceptional speed and articulation.

Supporting the active driver is a redesigned 12-inch down-firing passive radiator constructed from advanced carbon fiber, glass fiber, and closed-cell foam materials. The passive radiator is significantly stiffer and lighter than previous designs and is capable of more than 2.4 inches (60mm) of travel, extending bass depth, authority, and dynamic impact.

AMPLIFIER

Powering S/550 is a 550-watt Pure Class D amplifier capable of delivering more than 600 watts continuously under demanding conditions. Featuring REL's second-generation PerfectFilter technology and premium polypropylene capacitors derived from the company's Reference Series products, the amplifier delivers remarkable bass extension, transparency, and control.

REL's fully analog input filter architecture includes the renowned High-Level connection alongside low-level RCA and XLR inputs, ensuring seamless integration into both audiophile stereo systems and high-performance home theaters. REL's unique ability to run High-Level and .1/LFE connections simultaneously allows optimal performance for both music and movies without compromise.

WIRELESS

S/550 is compatible with REL's optional AirShip Direct wireless system. Unlike conventional wireless solutions, AirShip Direct transmits both High-Level and .1/LFE signals simultaneously while preserving the speed, transparency, dynamics, and tonal integrity required for true high-end performance.
