Featuring an 850-watt Linear Class D amplifier, a newly developed 12-inch CarbonAlloy active driver, and a massive long-stroke passive radiator, S/850 produces bass that is powerful, nuanced, and remarkably fast. Whether used as a single subwoofer, stereo pair, or as part of a REL Line Array, it provides a level of performance that redefines expectations within its class.

DESIGN

The S/850 cabinet is longer, lower, wider, and deeper than previous generations, creating a commanding visual presence while maximizing internal volume for improved acoustic performance. Elegant detailing includes precision-machined metal accents, recessed stainless-steel handles, and premium silver-gold finished badges inspired by titanium.

Built for both beauty and functionality, the cabinet incorporates internal aluminum reinforcement for Line Array applications, precision-machined leveling cylinders, and an optional Premium Wood Grille upgrade that adds warmth and individuality to the design.

DRIVER

At the core of S/850 is a newly refined 12-inch CarbonAlloy active driver utilizing a lightweight carbon-fiber center cap. By reducing moving mass while increasing rigidity, the driver delivers faster transient response, greater dynamic impact, and enhanced low-level detail retrieval.

Supporting the active driver is a redesigned 12-inch down-firing passive radiator constructed from advanced carbon fiber, glass fiber, and closed-cell foam materials. With over 2.4 inches (60mm) of travel in each direction, the passive radiator significantly expands bass authority, dynamic range, and low-frequency extension while maintaining exceptional control.

AMPLIFIER

The S/850 employs a powerful 850-watt Linear Class D amplifier engineered to combine the slam and authority of large Class A/B monoblocks with the efficiency and speed of modern Class D technology. Supported by a robust traditional power supply, the amplifier is capable of delivering up to 1,000 watts during demanding peaks, ensuring effortless dynamics and exceptional headroom.

Premium thin-film capacitors and REL's advanced analog filter architecture contribute to remarkable transparency, soundstage depth, and low-frequency precision. REL's legendary High-Level connection, along with RCA and XLR inputs, allows seamless integration into both high-end stereo systems and dedicated home theaters.

WIRELESS

S/850 is compatible with REL's optional AirShip Direct wireless system. Designed specifically for reference-grade performance, AirShip Direct transmits both High-Level and .1/LFE signals simultaneously while preserving dynamics, transparency, tonal accuracy, and bass authority without compression or compromise.
